ESE 2027 — Electrical Engineering · Prelims Planner

How to use

Goal: clear ESE Prelims (Jan 31, 2027). Target ≈ 300/500 — lean hard on Paper 2 (your strength) and stay disciplined on Paper 1 (the wildcard). Each week is a page; tick items daily. Checklists reset on reload — track real progress in your mistakes notebook.

Daily routine: ~2 hrs on a workday (75% technical Paper-2 + 25% Paper-1 GS) · 5–6 hrs each weekend day (PYQs, sectional/full tests, revision).

Golden rules: revise concept → immediately solve MCQs · never revise without solving · log every wrong answer · PYQs > everything · negative marking −1/3 → skip blind guesses.

Score targets (rebalanced to your strengths)

• Prelims 300/500 — your fort (objective, numerical). Aim here, it also counts toward final merit.
• Mains ~400/600 — realistic; answer-writing is your growth area (built post-prelims).
• Interview ~100/200 — safe.

ESE final merit = Prelims (500) + Mains (600) + Interview (200) = 1300. EE General final cutoff ≈ 655 (2024) — your target profile clears it comfortably if achieved.

Three phases

• Phase 1 (Wk 1–12, Sep 21–Dec 13): subject-by-subject EE coverage, high-weight first.
• Phase 2 (Wk 13–16, Dec 14–Jan 10): Paper-1 GS push (weak zone) + EE upkeep.
• Phase 3 (Wk 17–19, Jan 11–Jan 31): full mocks + PYQ papers + final revision.

Study material

• Paper 2 (technical): your Testbook material + a formula handbook (see below).
• Paper 1 (GS & Engg Aptitude): you lack this — get MADE EASY "General Studies & Engineering Aptitude" (the standard ESE Paper-1 book; IES Master's is an equal alternative). Current affairs: free monthly capsules (MADE EASY / IES Master PDFs) — don't buy extra.
• Formula book: Arihant GATE EE formula book is fine and covers EE well; MADE EASY's EE Handbook is the more commonly used ESE/GATE quick-revision handbook. Buy whichever is cheaper/available — one is enough. Verify the latest edition.

Test-material stack (≈ ₹674 total)

• Testbook 1-yr pass (~₹674), now→Dec: daily subject/section-wise MCQ volume (+ GATE/PSU material bonus).
• UPSC PYQ page — free: authentic last-15-yr papers (upsc.gov.in previous papers).
• MADE EASY / IES Master / ACE free open mocks, Dec–Jan: real national-rank calibration at zero cost. Watch their sites from mid-November for registration.

Honest calibration

Clearing prelims part-time in ~19 weeks is realistic for you — the EE paper is revision, not new learning, and prelims plays to your numerical/derivation strengths (your writing weakness only matters at Mains). The two real risks: (1) Paper-1 GS discipline and (2) sustaining ~20 hrs/week while working. Protect a fixed daily slot; missed days compound. Use your sister (EEE) as a doubt-clearing partner.
